For anyone who dries and styles most days, this is the Airwrap to get: testers dried hair in a few minutes, and its barrels pull hair on and curl it in either direction, with the i.d. curl sequence timing each curl for you. It is also lighter in the hand than the Airwrap i.d., and each attachment sets its own heat and airflow. The open question is straightening: the new Air straightener 2x hasn't been independently tested, and the earlier air-smoothing attachment didn't match a flat iron's finish. If you only wear your hair straight, Dyson's Airstrait fits better.
Pros
- Dries hair in minutes
- Curls both ways with one barrel
- i.d. curl sequence times each curl
- Lighter in the hand than the Airwrap i.d.
- Attachments set their own heat and airflow
Cons
- New Air straightener 2x is untested; the earlier AirSmooth2x smoothed rather than flat-ironed
- Older Airwrap attachments don't fit
- Barrels can get hot
- Not dual voltage

Overview
The Co-anda2x is the top of Dyson’s Airwrap range: one handheld styler that dries hair, curls it in either direction with air, smooths it and adds volume, built around a new motor Dyson calls the Hyperdymium 2. It suits anyone who styles most days and wants a single tool in place of a dryer and a curling wand. This listing is the 2026 Straight+Wavy kit, which was $749 on Amazon in October 2026.
Against the Airwrap i.d., which Dyson still sells, Dyson credits the new motor with double the air pressure and 30% more power, in a body that is lighter in the hand. The attachments now carry a chip, so the styler recognizes each one and applies its heat and airflow settings, and the kit includes a straightening attachment, a first for an Airwrap. The 2026 kit swaps the original AirSmooth2x for the Air straightener 2x and the 1.2-inch barrel for a new conical one; Dyson announced both attachments in July 2026. Attachments from older Airwraps don’t fit.

Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x Drying Speed and Power
Drying speed is the headline gain. Dyson says the Fast dryer 2x makes the styler a full-performance hair dryer, and the timed results back that up: Marie Claire UK’s tester reached the 80% dry point the instructions ask for before styling in two minutes, Marie Claire’s US tester got long, fine but plentiful hair there in about five, and Grazia Malaysia’s tester fully dried long, thick hair in three to four minutes. Marie Claire’s US tester found it so strong that the lowest airflow and heat settings were all they ever needed.
Two testers who also review standalone dryers found the Fast dryer good enough to replace one. The Independent’s reviewer said Dyson’s claim of drying as fast as a full-performance dryer held up, and argued the Co-anda2x is more powerful than the ghd Helios, the reviewer’s own best-hair-dryer pick; nearly ten months later, the Fast dryer had retired that Helios almost immediately.
Dyson says the extra power comes without extra noise. Marie Claire UK’s tester found it quiet enough that two dogs sleeping nearby didn’t stir.
Curling With the i.d. Curl Sequence
The barrels use the Coanda effect: hold a section of damp hair near one and the airflow pulls it on and wraps it, and a twist at the tip switches the curl direction, so one barrel curls both ways. Set up a hair profile in the MyDyson app and the i.d. curl sequence runs each curl for you: the styler senses when hair is wrapped, styles it, sets it with a cold shot and then releases it.
How long the curls last varied with hair type. Stuff’s tester, with a lot of hair, curled in the morning and still had much the same curls that evening, only slightly dropped the next day, and Marie Claire’s US tester, whose fine hair doesn’t hold a curl well, got curls that lasted all day. Buro247’s tester found the curls dropped sooner than with their Airwrap i.d., which they put down to their own technique, until a little hairspray made them last up to a few days. The Independent’s reviewer, with heavy, straight hair, had to run the sequence twice on each section, a short default cycle the reviewer expected to fix by changing the timings in the app. Grazia Malaysia’s tester, whose heavy hair never really holds curls, got about five hours from them with pre- and post-styling creams.
Routine times ranged widely. Marie Claire UK went from wet to a bouncy blow-dry in nine minutes. Buro247’s tester dried and styled in 16 to 18 minutes, and Stuff’s tester, with a lot of hair, took about half an hour, less than with a traditional curling wand. The Independent’s first session ran past an hour and a half, on hair the reviewer calls particularly curl-averse. At launch in July 2025, TechRadar pointed out that the best Airwrap lookalikes couldn’t curl both ways on one barrel, let alone automate the sequence.
All of these tests used the 2025 kit, which paired 1.2-inch and 1.6-inch barrels. The 2026 kit replaces the 1.2-inch barrel with the new conical one, which Dyson says gives tighter curls at the root that loosen toward the ends, and has a new 1.6-inch barrel that Dyson says wraps more hair than the original. Marie Claire’s US tester found the 2025 kit’s two round barrels each gave one standard curl shape, so a curling iron may suit you better if you want more variety; the conical barrel, built for a curl that changes from root to tip, hasn’t been independently tested.
Straightening and Smoothing Attachments
The Air straightener 2x in this kit uses two high-velocity air jets and passive plates (Dyson calls them aerothermal plates) to straighten hair as it dries, in as little as one pass from wet, according to Dyson. We found no independent test of this new attachment yet. Its predecessor, the AirSmooth2x in the 2025 kit, was tested widely, and it cut frizz and flyaways: Stuff’s tester found the result tidy enough to skip getting the straighteners out.
Grazia Malaysia’s tester didn’t get flat-iron results from it, though it smoothed the lengths and softly bent the ends. Buro247’s tester, pleased with the results, found the finish slightly less smooth than Dyson’s dedicated Airstrait but liked that it can curl the ends in.
The Anti-snag loop brush 2x has loop-ended bristles that compress as you brush, so hair slides off rather than catching. W Magazine’s tester found it smoothed flyaways with very little effort, and The Independent’s reviewer had no tugging while grabbing large sections. The Large round volumizing brush 2x is new for 2026, with a larger head than the brush in the earlier kit.
Weight, Controls and Everyday Handling
Dyson’s lighter claim refers to the styler body alone; its published figures don’t agree (Dyson Canada gives 0.971 kg for the kit without saying what that covers), and TechRadar found the listed weights confusing. In the hand, testers found the body slimmer, lighter and easier to move around the head than the i.d.
The controls divided testers. The Quality Edit’s tester styled without reading the instructions and called it absurdly easy, while Buro247’s tester found the new power button less flexible than the i.d.’s switch, because it only starts or stops the sequence, and was confused at first that there is no off button: the styler switches itself off once it cools. TechRadar’s editor, writing from the launch details, called the new smaller switches fiddly. The barrels can get hot during use, two testers warn, and like earlier Airwraps it isn’t dual voltage: Dyson says it may not work where the voltage differs and advises against using it with an adaptor.
How Does It Stack Up Against the Competition?

Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x: Worth It for Fast Everyday Drying and Curling
If you wash and style most days, this is the Airwrap that earns its place on the counter: several testers found it can replace a dryer and curling wand, and its speed shortens a full wash-and-style routine. Buro247’s tester found the stronger airflow handles thicker sections, which cut their overall styling time. If you already have a recent Airwrap you’re happy with, upgrading may feel less urgent.
If you only ever wear your hair straight, Stuff’s reviewer would choose Dyson’s Airstrait instead, since air straightening, at least with the tested AirSmooth2x, didn’t match a flat iron’s finish. If you only style now and then, the Airwrap i.d. covers it, and for Coanda curling without Dyson’s app-run sequence, the Shark FlexStyle does the basics.
