1. Who We Are

Top Trusted Products (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website toptrustedproducts.com, a consumer product review publication serving readers in the United States and Canada. The site is operated from Alberta, Canada.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

We collect personal information only when you choose to provide it:

Contact form submissions — When you use the contact form on our Contact page, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message. This information is stored in our WordPress database and used solely to respond to your enquiry.

We do not operate user accounts, comments sections, or mailing lists. We do not collect payment information.

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

Like most websites, our hosting provider (WHC.ca, a Canadian hosting company) automatically records standard web server log data when your browser requests a page: your IP address, browser type and version, the page requested, the referring URL, and the date and time. Because an IP address can identify you, we treat these logs as personal information. They are used only for security monitoring and diagnosing technical problems. Our host keeps each month’s log until the end of the following month and then deletes it, so a log entry is kept for up to about two months; copies may also exist for a limited time in our host’s backups.

We use the following cookies on this site:

3.1 First-Party Cookies (Set by Us)

ttp_region — A short-lived cookie set when you visit our Canadian reviews section (/ca/). It stores your regional preference (Canadian or US) so that shared pages such as About and Contact display the correct regional styling. This cookie contains no personal data, expires after 30 minutes, and is cleared when you return to the main site.
WordPress admin cookies — Standard WordPress login and session cookies (e.g. wordpress_logged_in_*). These are set only if you are a site administrator who has logged in to the WordPress dashboard. General visitors do not receive these cookies.
Consent cookie (cookieadmin_consent) — Records your response to the cookie consent notice displayed on your first visit. Expires after 1 year. Contains only your consent preference; no personal data.

3.2 Third-Party Cookies

Amazon Associates (Amazon.com / Amazon.ca) — When you click an affiliate link on our site and are redirected to Amazon, Amazon may set tracking cookies on your device to attribute any resulting purchase to our affiliate account. These cookies are governed by Amazon’s Privacy Notice. We do not control or have access to these cookies.
Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_5D2ZNETQXC) — Set on our domain by Google’s analytics script, only if you accept analytics cookies in our cookie notice. They let Google Analytics recognise a returning browser and expire after up to 2 years. See section 4.1.
Trustpilot — Our pages show a Trustpilot review widget. Trustpilot may set its own cookies when it loads; see section 4.5.

We do not use Facebook Pixel or any advertising cookies.

3.3 Records of Your Cookie Choice

When you make a choice in our cookie notice, our consent tool (CookieAdmin) records it with a shortened version of your IP address (the last part removed), your country and your browser type, so we can show that consent was given. These records are deleted after 12 months.

3.4 Local Storage (Reader Polls)

When you vote in a poll, your browser stores a small flag (local storage, not a cookie) so each reader votes once a day, and our server keeps a one-way hashed (scrambled) form of your IP address for 24 hours for the same purpose. It is not used for anything else.

4. Third-Party Services

4.1 Google Analytics (Google Site Kit)

We use Google Analytics 4, through Google’s Site Kit plugin, to count visits and see which pages are read. Its cookies (such as _ga) are set only if you accept analytics cookies in our cookie notice. Before you choose, or if you decline, it stores nothing on your device but may still send Google a cookieless signal, with no identifier, so that visits can be counted in aggregate (Google Consent Mode). Usage data, including your IP address, is sent to Google LLC in the United States and governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. We use it only for site statistics, not for advertising, and Google Analytics keeps this data for up to 14 months. Our fonts are hosted on our own server, so no font requests go to Google.

4.2 Amazon Associates

We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program (US) and the Amazon.ca Associates Program (Canada). Amazon uses cookies and other tracking mechanisms to attribute purchases made through our affiliate links. See Section 3.2 above and Amazon’s Privacy Notice for details.

4.3 WPForms

Our contact form is powered by WPForms. Form submissions are stored in our WordPress database on servers located in Canada (WHC.ca). WPForms does not transmit form data to third-party servers in its default configuration.

4.4 SpeedyCache

We use SpeedyCache to improve page load performance. SpeedyCache generates cached copies of pages and does not collect or process personal data.

4.5 Trustpilot Widget

Our pages show a Trustpilot review widget, loaded from Trustpilot’s servers (widget.trustpilot.com). Loading it sends your IP address and browser information to Trustpilot, which may set its own cookies. Trustpilot’s use of this data is governed by Trustpilot’s privacy terms.

5. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:

To respond to messages submitted via our contact form;
To maintain the correct regional display preference (US or CA) during your visit;
To count visits and see which pages are read (Google Analytics, as described in section 4.1);
To let each reader vote once a day in our polls;
To monitor server security and diagnose technical issues (server logs);
To comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not use personal information for marketing, profiling, or automated decision-making. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to any third party.

6. Data Retention

Contact form submissions — Retained for up to 2 years from the date of submission, or until deletion is requested, whichever comes first.
Server logs — Kept by our host until the end of the month after they are recorded (up to about two months), then deleted; copies may exist for a limited time in our host’s backups.
Google Analytics — Up to 14 months.
Reader polls — The hashed IP address is kept for 24 hours.
Cookie-choice records — 12 months.
Cookies — See Section 3 for individual cookie lifespans.

7. Your Rights

7.1 Canadian Residents — PIPA and PIPEDA

Under Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which applies to information that crosses provincial or national borders, you have the right to:

Request access to personal information we hold about you;
Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal information;
Withdraw consent to our collection or use of your personal information (subject to legal and contractual limitations);
Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

7.2 California Residents — CCPA / CPRA

California residents have the right to:

Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose;
Request deletion of personal information we hold about you;
Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — we do not sell or share personal information;
Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

7.3 EEA / UK Residents — GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) including the right to access, rectify, erase, and port your personal data, and to restrict or object to processing. Our lawful basis for processing contact form data is your consent (you choose to submit the form). To exercise your rights or lodge a complaint, contact us or reach your local data protection supervisory authority.

8. Cross-Border Data Transfers

Our website is hosted in Canada. If you access the site from outside Canada, your data (including contact form submissions) will be transferred to and processed in Canada. Google Analytics data is processed by Google LLC in the United States. We take reasonable steps to ensure that transfers of personal data comply with applicable privacy law.

9. Children’s Privacy

This site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date of the most recent revision appears at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the site following any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
