Buy a Braun Series 9 Pro if you shave every few days or have flat-lying hair on your neck: testers found it clears longer growth in few passes while staying comfortable, even on skin prone to razor burn. It runs about an hour per charge and rinses clean under the tap. The gold 9419s had no buyable offer on Amazon.ca in October 2026, so Canadians are better served by the silver 9477cc kit of the same shaver, which adds a cleaning station and PowerCase. The trade-off is that it's the older generation: Braun's newer Series 9 Pro+ has a head that cuts a bit closer, so the Pro makes most sense when it costs clearly less.
Pros
- Clears several days of growth, including flat-lying hairs, in few passes
- Comfortable shave for skin prone to razor burn

- Slide-out trimmer is weak for edging, per two testers
- Cordless only, with no USB-C charging

Overview
Braun’s Series 9 Pro is the shaver for men who let their stubble run a few days. Its ProLift trimmer and sonic motor are designed to catch the longer, flat-lying hairs that most foil shavers need several passes to clear. The 9419s is the gold solo kit: it comes with a charging stand and a travel case rather than a cleaning station.
In Canada, the gold 9419s had no buyable offer on Amazon.ca in October 2026, and Braun Canada’s Series 9 range now lists only Series 9 Pro+ (96xx) models. Every Series 9 Pro kit uses the same shaver, though, and testers rate it among the best electric shavers they’ve used; ShaverCheck, whose editor has used one for a few years, gives it its Editor’s choice.

Braun Series 9 Pro 9419s Shave Performance on Longer Stubble
This is where the Series 9 Pro earns its price. Braun rates it for 1-, 3- and 7-day beards, and testers who let their stubble grow found it cleared longer and flat-lying hairs quickly, with few missed patches to go back over. Wirecutter’s tester saw it get through a seven-day beard with no snags or pulling. Men’s Health’s tester, grooming writer Garrett Munce, facing about four days of stubble after the flu, got the same closeness and smoothness as his everyday shave without extra passes.
That efficiency shows up as time saved. Men’s Health found a dry shave that took about five minutes with his previous shaver, which wasn’t a Braun, came down to roughly three. Braun pairs the ProLift trimmer with a sonic motor (10,000 micro-vibrations a minute) and an AutoSense sensor that adjusts power to beard density, although testers couldn’t notice it adjusting.
On closeness alone, the Series 9 Pro is excellent rather than unbeatable. Wirecutter found its shave closer and more comfortable than Braun’s Series 8 8577cc, smoother than anything else in its test, and its Panasonic Arc6 failed to cut closer than the Braun models. ShaverCheck, on the other hand, found it lags Panasonic’s Arc 5 slightly right below the nose and on the chin, where its editor’s beard is thickest (it calls the gap small), and recommends the Arc 5 to closeness-focused men who shave often.
Comfort and Skin Irritation
Testers found it comfortable enough to use every day without irritation, including one with very sensitive skin, and it suits men who get razor burn or ingrown hairs. The head flexes front to back and its four cutters move freely, which keeps the foils in contact with the skin without pressing hard.
Testers split on how it compares with Braun’s older, non-Pro Series 9. ShaverCheck, shaving with both side by side, found the Pro’s new head and punchier motor slightly rougher and less forgiving, snagging a few long hairs, and points men with very sensitive skin to a standard Series 9. Men’s Health found the opposite: a gentler, smoother shave with less pulling than the non-Pro model.
It’s fully waterproof, so it works dry, with foam or gel, or in the shower. Shaving wet made only a small difference for testers; ShaverCheck noticed a smoother finish below the nose, where its editor’s hair is coarsest. Like most foil shavers it’s loud, and ShaverCheck found it a little louder than the standard Series 9.
Battery, Charging and What’s in the 9419s Box
The battery runs for about an hour per charge, which works out to roughly 10 to 12 shaves, and a full charge takes 50 minutes to an hour. A quick charge of about five minutes covers a shave if you forget. It’s cordless only, so it won’t run while it charges, and it uses Braun’s own two-prong charger rather than USB-C.
The 9419s is the solo kit: you get the shaver, a charging stand and a travel case, with no cleaning station and no PowerCase. That doesn’t change the shave, since every Series 9 Pro kit uses the same shaver. It does mean rinsing the head under the tap after shaving, which is easy on a waterproof shaver, and oiling the cutters regularly, after every cleaning if you use soap. If you want automatic cleaning later, the solo models work with Braun’s Series 9 cleaning station (Type 5430).
Trimmer, Replacement Heads and Running Cost
The slide-out trimmer on the back is where testers disagree most. Men’s Health found it gave the quickest, most effective sideburn trim it had had from an electric razor. ShaverCheck rates it mediocre at best, awkward to hold and only effective against the grain, and Shaving Advisor found it does the job on sideburns, but not quickly. For shaping a beard, a dedicated trimmer will do better.
Braun recommends a new head every 18 months. The Series 9 Pro uses Braun’s 94M head and also takes the newer 96M head from the Pro+ (see the comparison below). On Amazon.ca, Braun’s Series 9 replacement head, listed there as the 96M, was $104.98 CAD in October 2026, or about $70 CAD a year at that interval.
Braun’s standard warranty is two years, and registering the shaver with Braun can extend it to five; ShaverCheck notes the extension may depend on your country and run for a limited time.
How It Compares With Braun’s Newer Series 9 Pro+
The Series 9 Pro (the 94xx models) arrived in late 2021. Braun followed it with the Series 9 Pro+ (the 95xx, then the 96xx in 2025), and in July 2026 it released the Braun Nevo as the successor to the whole Series 9 family. The 96xx Pro+ differs in three ways: a 96M head with thinner blades inside the foils that Braun says cut closer, a new beard sensor (Pro SensoAdapt, which Braun says reads density 300 times a second) and, carried over from the 95xx, a straight-edged slide-out trimmer that ShaverCheck finds a bit more effective, though still mediocre.
ShaverCheck, comparing a 96xx side by side with a 94xx, found the newer shaver slightly smoother but not a radical step, noticed no benefit from the new sensor, and says the motor, battery, head mechanism and build are carried over. It also says the 96M head fits the Series 9 Pro and brings most of the newer shaver’s benefits, so much of the closeness gain is available as a replacement part.
That makes the choice mostly about price. ShaverCheck’s advice, in its review updated in July 2026, is to buy the older Series 9 Pro or Pro+ when it costs less and comes with the accessories you want, and the 96xx when it costs not a lot more. On Amazon.ca in October 2026, the Pro+ 9617s (also sold with a charging stand and no cleaning station) was $449.99 CAD, and the same Series 9 Pro shaver in Braun’s fuller 9477cc kit, with a cleaning station and PowerCase, was $429.99 CAD. At those October 2026 prices, the 9477cc kit was the way to get a Series 9 Pro in Canada, and the newer Pro+ cost only a little more.
How Does It Stack Up Against the Competition?

Braun Series 9 Pro 9419s: Worth It for Multi-Day Stubble
Buy a Series 9 Pro if you shave every few days, have flat-lying hair on your neck, or want a dry shave that’s over quickly: testers found it clears longer growth fast and comfortably, and it suits skin that’s prone to razor burn. In Canada, buy it in the kit Amazon.ca actually stocks: in October 2026 that was the silver 9477cc, the same shaver with the cleaning station and PowerCase that this gold kit leaves out.
Look elsewhere in three cases. If you shave every day and want the closest possible result on a dense moustache, ShaverCheck’s tests favour Panasonic, though Wirecutter’s didn’t. If you already know rotary shavers suit you, or you want a quieter shaver, ShaverCheck points to the Philips i9000 Prestige Ultra. And if you’d rather spend less, Wirecutter rates Braun’s Series 8 nearly as good as many razors that cost much more, though its tester found the Series 9 Pro closer still.
